Remie Jones

January 1. 2022 Remie started the business, Ortu Stella, LLC to do mentoring and public speaking to advocate for inmates and previously incarcerated people. After serving 10 years in state prisons in Ohio, Remie came home with a mission to find success on the fast track, via hard work and preparation. After seeing success within his first few years home, he then made it his mission to give back by letting others on the inside know that it is not too far out of reach to escape the shadows and clutch of the American Legal System. Recidivism is far too high in this country and Rehabilitation is put on the back burner while the "Tough on Crime" approach spirals out of control. Remie started this podcast to bridge the gap between the folks on the inside, who are far too often overlooked, and society on the outside with whom they need for support in reintegrating and becoming positive contributors.

Debbie "DJ" Jones

Debbie is a PhD student studying Policy at The Ohio State University. Her research has centered around criminal legal reform, educational equity, and restoring democracy for justice. Prior to being in academia full-time, she spent several years working for the government, primarily in consulting/coaching with K-12 schools, on addressing their inequitable discipline practices towards Black students and the school-to-prison pipeline. A long advocate and visionary for change, DJ hopes that by joining Remie in this podcast they can shed the light on institutional secrets in the criminal justice system. When not in school or recording this podcast, you can find her hosting dance parties in the living room with her kiddos, riding her motorcycle, hiking the metro parks, watching The Golden Girls, or listening to true crime podcasts on a run.
